Historical Gold Prices – Food for Thought

It’s impossible to make sense of historical gold prices without looking at history.

We probably agree on this one.

And today’s gold prices have to be considered in the context of what’s going on in the world. Not just where you live, not just where we live…but throughout the entire world. The market–including the gold market–responds to a whole lot more than just what’s going on in our own back yard.

Chances are, we agree on this one, too.

But what do today’s current events really tell us about what’s going on with the gold market, or the market in general?

Here’s where we’re thinking about those of you who want solid answers. Even those folks who just want the numbers…who just want today’s news…hang in here with us. You might want to open your minds, at least a little bit.

Here’s a little item of for those of us who have some interest in gold coins.

Israel found a really spectacular one. It’s estimated to be over 2000 years old. The image on the gold coin is believed to be a likeness of Cleopatra I, wife of Ptolemy V (1).

We’d love to tell you we have that coin for sale, but unfortunately, we don’t.

Maybe we do have your interest, though.

And if you want more than historical gold prices before you make investment decisions that affect far more than your portfolio, keep reading.

Now, a look back at history. Check out this quote:

“Let me tell you something we Israelis have against Moses. He took us forty years into the desert in order to bring us to the one place in the Middle East that has no oil.”
– Golda Meir, former Prime Minister of Israel, 1973 (2)

And back to current events:

“On Jan. 18 (2009), just hours after a cease-fire began in the Gaza Strip, Israel announced the discovery of a major natural gas field off its northern Mediterranean coast…” (3)

So, what does this mean?

We have our own ideas on that one.

Author David Jeremiah does a whole lot better job explaining it than we ever could.
